Biographical Note

Sergeant Richard Thomas Rozsa was born to John J. and Ethel R. Rozsa in Gary, Indiana on September 7, 1963, the youngest of 7 children. Like his father and grandfather, veterans of the world wars, he entered military service, enlisting in the U.S. Navy on January 2, 1986 while living and working in Denver, Colorado. Rozsa attended basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he received the High Performance Award for Excellence on March 28, 1986. He received further military training: Fort Carson, Colorado. On October 8, 1988, Rozsa married Linda Lee Ball in Elizabeth, Colorado. Later, he spent 6 weeks at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for additional training. In 1990, he was sent to Germany, where he was joined by his wife Linda a few months later. Their son Aaron Thomas was born July 26, 1990. Rozsa was deployed to Saudi Arabia on December 6, 1990, and returned to Germany April 22, 1991.
