This collection includes the photostat copies and transcripts of a 25-foot scroll of letters from Komanisuke Kumagai letters in Indiana and the United States to Mrs. McClelland in Crawfordsville, Indiana during his travels lecturing on Japanese culture during April-June, 1889.

Biographical Note
Komanisuke Kumagai was a Japanese citizen from Tokyo who attended and graduated from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana during 1885-1889. During his attendance at the college, he lectured about Japanese culture and beliefs within Indiana and other places in the United States. Kumagai died in Japan in 1899.
