Biographical Note

Portia Cooper Laughlin was born in Plainfield, Indiana on June 14, 1903. She studied at the Denishawn School of the Dance in New York and pursued a career in dance. She also became deaf and was involved in hearing testing and lipreading in the Dade County Public Schools after moving to Miami. She died in 1982.
