Historical Note
The original capitol building for the state of Indiana was located in downtown Corydon in Harrison County. The building is a square with 40-foot walls, built in the Federal-style and constructed over the span of two years from 1814 to 1816. When the state government moved to Indianapolis in 1825, the building reverted to being used as the Harrison County Courthouse. The building was retired from public use in 1929 before being re-opened the next year as a state memorial site.
