Biographical Note
Marie McNett, the daughter of Mrs. Frank Meid, graduated from Manual Training High School, where she was a pupil in E. H. Kemper McComb's English class. She studied for a year at Miami University, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin. McNett was living in Williamsport, Massachusetts, when her play "Cradle of Glory" was first produced. She later lived in Deland, Florida.
The play, "Cradle of Glory" was first performed at Barnum Summer Theatre in Michigan City, Indiana. The three-act play dramatized the death of Abraham Lincoln's mother, the arrival of his father's second wife, Abraham's struggle to educate himself, and the family conflict that grew out of his decision to leave home. The play covers Lincoln's formative years (from age seven to twenty-one) and shows their importance in his career. The epilogue to the play is Lincoln's address delivered in Indianapolis on February 11, 1861, on his way to Washington, D.C.
