The collection is a photocopy of one letter written by Professor A. B. Shipman on November 7,
1847, to W. L. Macy, Secretary of War, making application for an appointment to the position of
Regimental Surgeon for service in the Mexican War. In the letter, Shipman describes his
credentials and experience as a physician.
