Biographical / Historical
The Indiana General Assembly or "Legislature" was organized under the provisions of the first Indiana state constitution, written in 1816. The General Assembly first convened in Corydon, Indiana on November to satisfy the last requirements of the United States government for admission to the Union. There were twenty-nine members of the House of Representatives and ten members of the Senate. Statehood was granted by Congress December 11, 1816.
