Scope and Contents

This collection includes two items, dating from November 1830: a petition to the Vigo County commissioners requesting that a road be built in Section 27 of Township 12, signed by John Jackson and others, and a note from Jeremiah Rappleye(?) and James Dickson to the county commissioners regarding the land to be used in building the road.

Historical Note

Vigo County is located in western central Indiana, on the border between Indiana and Illinois. It was organized in 1818 and named for Colonel Francis Vigo. The current county seat is Terre Haute and is home to Indiana State University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
