Historical Note

The Contemporary Club of Indianapolis was founded in 1890 by May Wright Sewall, a well-known, civic-minded resident of the city who desired an organization that encouraged the intellectual gathering of both men and women on equal terms. The club does not express an opinion on any subject, but all subjects are open for discussion by its members. Membership is not limited to Indianapolis residents and both men and women have held leadership roles since its founding. The club celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2010 and continues to be active club.
