Scope and Contents

This collection contains clippings a several different newspaper columns that have quips and one-liners from Myron Scarbrough. The clippings include Irving Leibowitz's Indianapolis Times column (1961-1965), Troy Gordon's Tulsa World column, "Round the Clock"(1962-1976), and the Indianapolis News, "Don't Quote Me" column by Bill Wildhack, Frank Salzarulo, David Mannweiler, and other writers (1965-1974). Also included are clippings of Myron Scarbrough's column, "Quipograms", from the National Tattler (1970), his "Neighborhood Winks" column written for the North Eastside Community Organization (NESCO) (undated), some miscellaneous clippings from various publications (1962-1973), and a thank you letter from Irving Leibowitz onJuly 15, 1963.

Biographical Note

Myron Scarbrough was born February 21, 1921 in Indianapolis, Indiana to William and Lyndal Scarbrough. He was an army veteran of World War II and graduated from Butler University in 1947. He was the managing editor of Taylor Publishing Company for 37 years and wrote quips and one-liners that appeared in many local and national publications. He married Ruth O'Hara (1924-2009) in 1946 and they had three daughters. Scarbrough spent his life making people laugh and passed away on March 7, 1991.
