Administrative History
Westminster Presbyterian Church began as a mission Sunday school in 1810. The first log chapel was located on the north side of Palmers' Creek. A frame church house was built in 1819 at the corner of East 6th and Hefron streets in Washington, Indiana. This frame church was replaced by a brick structure in 1868. The last church home to be constructed was started in 1910 and was dedicated on February 12, 1912.
On January 20, 1909, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Washington and the Westminster Presbyterian Church merged to form the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Washington, Indiana. Westminster Presbyterian Church was the first church in Washington and Daviess County. It was also the third church to be established in the Indiana Territory.
