Scope and Contents
The collection primarily consists of correspondence sent to Lieber regarding his involvement with various civic associations: The Civil Improvement Committee of the Indianapolis Commercial Club (1910), the Indiana Little Theatre Society, the John Herron Art Institute (1915-1916), the Paul Dresser Memorial Commission. There are also clippings related to the proposal to erect a memorial to the teachers of Indianapolis, to be located in the Memorial Court of the new Shortridge High School building, an article on Paul Dresser by Max Ehrmann, and drawings of proposed memorials to Dresser in Terre Haute. Correspondents include William Fortune and Lorado Taft.

Biographical Note
Carl H. Lieber was born in Indianapolis on March 16, 1866, the second son of Herman and Mary Metzer Lieber. After completing a year at Shortridge High School, he entered H. Lieber and Copmpany (his father's business) and remained with the company until his death. Carl Lieber married Meta Panzer. The couple had four children: Carl T. and Meta Lieber of Indianapolis, Hilda Lieber of New York City, and Mrs. J.W. Hofmann of Indianapolis.
Carl Lieber was chairman of the fine arts committee of the John Herron Art Institute. He was also a life member of the American Historical Association. Mr. Lieber died on April 6, 1929 of heart failure while at Hot Springs, Arkansas.
