Biographical Note
Philip Shrader was born in Pennsylvania in 1792. He moved to Ohio and later married Abigal Maria Woodruff in February 1817 and they had two sons, Aaron (1818-1891) and Elihu (1820-1903). After his first wife's death, Shrader then married Martha Turner (1804-1870) around 1826 and they had seven children: William (1829-1908), Noble (1838-1887), Charlotte (1831-1914), Susan Amanda (1834-1909), Matilda (1836-1850), Julia and Evaline. One of the early pioneers in Indiana, Shrader purchased land in Fayette County in 1823 and lived there until his death on December 12, 1870.
Shrader's daughter, Charlotte, was born August 9, 1831. She married James Weaver on August 11, 1859 and they had two sons, Philip Francis "Frank" (1861-1946) and (James) Albert (1866-1955). James Weaver was born April 10, 1833 to George and Catherine Weaver, another pioneering family of Fayette County. He passed away on January 30, 1887 and Charlotte on April 5, 1914.
Members of the Shrader and Weaver families continued to live in Fayette County, Indiana for generations. Frank Weaver's children, Edith (1892-1987), and Laz (1894-1977) donated the family's 108 acres and Philip Shrader's 1830 home to the State of Indiana and the property is now the Shrader-Weaver Nature Preserve.
