Historical Note

Before Kentucky's statehood, slavery was introduced by the earliest settlers. Its agriculture-based economy relied heavily on slavery for farm work. Kentucky was originally Kentucky county, Virginia. It's original three counties were Jefferson, Lincoln, and Fayette and were gradually divided in the later 18th century.
