Scope and Contents

This collection includes a scrapbook title page with an embossed "Scraps" and J.C. Riker Publisher imprint along with the written entry, "James K. Pleasants Scrap Book Commenced Vevay Indiana Nov 1852"; a color print of a tulip; and a partial page of newspaper clippings that includes the "I wait for Thee" poem and the story "A Millerite Miracle."

Biographical / Historical

James K. Pleasants was born on August 20, 1829 in Vevay, Indiana to George and Anna Pleasants. He married Charlotte Singer on October 12, 1854 and they had seven children. He owned and operated a large warehouse where he bought hay, grain and produce and was known as "The Produce King." He also owned a local clothing business. He passed away at the age of 84 on January 10, 1914.
