Historical Note

The Democratic State Committee and County Chairmen of Indiana decided that an accurate 60-day poll was needed prior to the 1918 election. Poll books were furnished to each county chairman and distributed to poll takers in each precinct. The party noted that neither a thorough organization could be perfected in a precinct nor was it possible to know who the voters were or how they would vote without polling each precinct.
