Scope and Contents
This collection includes the inventory and appraisement of the personal estate of Sophia K. Shipman, certified by two appraisers and her estate administrator, George D. Weatherford on February 22, 1860. Approved and recorded by the county clerk on September 13, 1860, the inventory includes furniture, housewares, livestock, farm equipment, and the names and ages of seven slaves.

Biographical / Historical
Sophia K. Thompson was born in Virginia on June 19, 1794. She married Francis Lightfoot Lee on October 22, 1816. Following his death in 1836, Sophia married Chauncey Shipman on February 1, 1838. She passed away at the age of 65 on January 28, 1860.
