Biographical / Historical
The Greer Lumber Company was established in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1889 by S. Robert Greer. Allen A. Wilkinson, Greer’s brother-in-law, became a partner and the company name was changed to Greer-Wilkinson Lumber Company in 1892. Wilkinson later acquired the controlling interest in the company and the name was changed to the Allen A. Wilkinson Lumber Company in 1917. By the 1920s it was one of the largest lumber companies in Indiana, with 36 branches and several mills around the state.
