This collection includes thirty-four letters written by Thomas N. McClung while he was a Union soldier during the Civil War to his family. Also included are three photographs, one newspaper clipping, and a copy of the "History of the Seventeenth Indiana: It's Marches and Battles."

Biographical Note

Thomas Nathan McClung was born in Indiana in 1845 and resided in Brick Mill, Sullivan County, Indiana before serving as a soldier during the U.S. Civil War in Co. I, 17th Indiana Regiment. He mustered in on 12 June 1861 as a private and mustered out on 8 August 1865 as a corporal.

Mr. McClung married Amanda J. Mayfield on January 19, 1867. They had one daughter. When Thomas N. McClung died in 1931 he was the last surviving member of Co. I.
