Biographical Note
Edward McCartney built a trading post on the north bank of the Wabash River a short distance below the mouth of the Eel River in 1824. He was a government land agent and Indian interpreter and never settled permanently in the county. McCartney later lived in Kosciusko County with the Jacob Smith family.
