This collection contains typed transcriptions of letters written by Charles Smeidel from 1861 to 1862. Some letters are incomplete. His letters were primarily to his wife and young daughter from Mississippi, but also from Illinois and Missouri.

Biographical / Historical

Charles L. Smeidel was a second lieutenant in the Illinois 21st Infantry Regiment, Company B. He died of disease in April of 1862 in Nashville, Tennessee.
