This collection includes a sketch of James Whitcomb Riley drawn by Alvah Judson Rogers mostly like following his move to Brown County, Indiana in 1940. The pencil drawing depicts Riley in profile wearing his spectacles and is signed A. J. Rogers.

Biographical Note

Alvah Judson Rogers was born October 19, 1894 in Gloversville, New York to Alva H. and Lola (Judson) Rogers. He became an architect and for a time designed houses in California. He moved to Nashville, Indiana in 1940 and went on to design more than 40 homes in Brown County and neighboring Monroe County, including his own home in Nashville that he named Robinwood. Rogers was also an accomplished artist and was an active supporter of the Brown County Art Gallery and the Brown County Art Guild. He died at the age of 82 on May 19, 1977.
