This collection comprises a letter written by William L. Lindsey on May 17, 1865 in Pulaski, Tennessee to an "unknown lady friend" in Indiana, regarding his military service and experiences during the U.S. Civil War, and his hopes for after the war, for himself and his fellow soldiers, including marriage to fine Hoosier ladies.

Biographical / Historical
William L. Lindsey enlisted in Company B, 5th Indiana Cavalry on August 22, 1862, in Connersville, Indiana. He was promoted to the rank of full captain on January 14, 1865 and mustered out on March 7, 1865. Lindsey was commissioned an officer in Company H, 6th Indiana Cavalry on that same day and mustered out on September 5, 1865 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
