Biographical Note

Frederick Polley was born on August 15, 1875 in Union City, Indiana. He studied under William Forsyth and was a member of the Indiana Artists Club, among others. In 1914, he settled in Indianapolis and became the city's only professional etcher. He died in Brown County, Indiana on September 9, 1957.

Historical Note

Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument is Indiana's official memorial to the Hoosiers that served in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, and the Spanish-American War. It is made from limestone from Owen County, Indiana and was completed in 1902.
