Biographical / Historical
Chester Fay Brenton was born on July 10, 1912 in North Dakota to James Fay and Bertie Brenton. James Fay (1874-1945) was the son of Dr. Andrew Thomas Brenton (1847-1912), Andrew was the son of Dr. James Baird Brenton (1815-1891), and James Baird was the son of Henry Brenton (1779-1846), a Methodist minister who came to Indiana following his purchase of land in the northern part of Perry Township in Marion County in 1821. Chester had a strong interest in his family's genealogy and wrote several histories regarding the Brenton family including, Life and Times of James Brenton, Major, Virginia Militia (1975); Life and Times of Henry Brenton, Minister of the Gospel (1977); Life and Times of James Baird Brenton, Doctor on Horseback (1980); Life and Times of Andrew Thomas Brenton, Doctor to the Prairie Folk (1985). Chester’s family moved to Spokane, Washington around 1921 and there he spent the remainder of his life, passing away at the age of 87 on August 23, 1999.
