Biographical / Historical
William Francis Boor was born June 10, 1819 in Perry County, Ohio to Nicholas and Rachel Boor. In 1842, he began a three-year study of medicine under Drs. Dillon and Spencer in Uniontown, Muskingum County, Ohio. Following a short stay in Carlisle, Monroe County, Ohio, Boor arrived in Middletown, Indiana in August 1846 and set up his medical practice. He married Catharine Axline on April 12, 1847 and they had two children. Catharine died in March 1852 and the following October, Boor entered the Jefferson Medical College at Philadelphia to further his medical knowledge. He graduated in 1853 and returned to Middletown to resume his practice. On April 1, 1857, he married Sarah Roof of New Castle, Indiana and they had two children. He moved his family to Perry County, Ohio for about a year and then moved back to Indiana and settled in New Castle. He served as a surgeon with the Fourth Indiana Cavalry during the Civil War and lived the rest of his life in New Castle, passing away at the age of 88 on July 16, 1907.
