Scope and Contents
This collection includes photostat copies of two letters from Issac A. and David S. Hulick in the United States ranging from 1863 to 1864, while they were serving during the U.S. Civil War. David Hulick's letter is dated March 1863 from Murfreesboro, Tennessee while Isaac's was sent in May 1864 from New Orleans, Louisiana.

Biographical Note
Issac Addison Hulick was born in Indiana on December 18, 1841, the first child of Henry and Sophia W. (Decker) Hulick. The family moved around Indiana, eventually settling in Tipton. During the U.S. Civil War, Hulick served as a soldier and wagonerin Company F, 11th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, also known as The Zouaves. The 11th saw action at the battles of Fort Henry, Shiloh, Corinth, Vicksburg, Bayou Bourbeux, and Fisher’s Hill, among others. After the war, Hulick returned to Tipton, and married Nancy Ellen Ferguson on December 26, 1871. They had two children, Winona V. and Farel Herd Hulick. Issac Hulick died on January 6, 1906, and was buried in Tipton, Indiana.
Isaac's younger brother David S. Hulick was born in Indiana in 1843. He grew up in Tipton and mustered into Company C, 101st Indiana Infantry Regiment, as a private. Hulick fought in the Defense of Cincinnati, the Tullahoma Campaign, and the battles of Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge before being killed while holding Chattanooga on January 7, 1864. He was interred in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
