Historical Note

The First Baptist Church of Delphi, Indiana was organized on August 8, 1829. In the early records of the church, the congregation was called the Church of Christ on Deer Creek and the Regular Baptist Church of Christ called Deer Creek. In 1832, county commissioners donated two lots in Delphi on the condition that the church would build a house of worship within two years. The donation was secured in 1833 and within three years a plain brick structure was ready for occupancy. The church was built with a partition down the middle that separated the men and women of the congregation. In August 1834, the church approved a motion to call the church the Regular Baptist Church of Jesus Christ at Delphi. In 1892, a new modern building was erected and was dedicated on May 20, 1894 and continues to be used today by the congregation now known as the First Baptist Church.
