Historical Note
The Indiana State Conference on Social Work was founded in 1890 as the State Board of Charities and Corrections. The organization was a member of the National Conference on Social Welfare and the Association of State Conferences on Social Work. At its annual conference held in October 1924, the conference adopted a resolution to change its name to the Indiana State Conference on Social Work to conform to the national organizations. In the 1940s, the conference established the Committee on Registration of Social Workers which supported legislation that required all social workers in Indiana entering the practice to be licensed and those already practicing in the field to be "blanketed in" by any licensing law.
