Biographical Note

Agnes Irene Howard was born March 8, 1872 in South Bend, Indiana to Judge Timothy E. and Julia A. (Redmond) Howard. She married Arthur Park Perley on October 23, 1895 and they had two daughters. Agnes Perley was active in social welfare and civic organizations and received a citation from Pope Pius XII in 1952 for her extensive work with Catholic charities. She served as president of the St. Joseph County Welfare Board for the 31 years and was president of the Circle of Mercy Catholic charity for 25 years. Perley died at the age of 94 on August 9, 1966.
