Scope and Contents
This collection contains several items collected by Robert "Bob" Printy related to the Lagro, Indiana public schools, including a program from the May 1896 high school commencement, an invitation for the 1913 high school commencement, a circa 1935 booklet listing the graduates of the high school from 1883 to 1935, and a copy of First Annual Catalogue, Public Schools of Lagro, Indiana, 1885-86. The catalogue includes a prospectus for 1886-1887 and lists H. F. Willkie as both the superintendent and the teacher of the high school. H. F. (Herman Francis) Willkie was the father of Wendell Willkie, the Republican presidential candidate in 1940.
The collection also contains a invitation to the 1913 commencement of Bippus High School in Huntington County and a photocopy of a January 22, 1975 letter sent to the Elwood Public Library by Printy regarding the Lagro catalogue and H. F. Willkie. An undated response was written at the end of the letter by Mrs. Esther B. Hunt, the head librarian of the Elwood Public Library.

Biographical Note
Robert "Bob" Nelson Printy was born August 11, 1901 in Wabash County, Indiana to Everett and Ruth (Biggerstaff) Printy. He became a professional wrestler and performed a strongman act with the Ringling Brothers Circus. He also coached wrestling and worked for the Celotex factory in Lagro, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a 50-year member of the Tuscan Masonic Lodge of Lagro. He married Dorothy Holcomb (1915-1974) on October 31, 1951. Printy died at the age of 80 on December 31, 1981.
