Administrative History

The 50th, 83rd, 93rd, 97th and 100th Indiana Regiments all formed around September of 1862 and fought predominantly in the Western Theater of the American Civil War. The 50th spent most of their time Tennessee, at one point surrendering to General Bragg before being paroled and continuing to fight in the same region. The 83rd, 93rd, 97th, and 100th regiments all participated, to some extent, in the siege of Vicksburg, the Atlanta Campaign, the March to the Sea and General Sherman's march through the Carolinas. Battle highlights include the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Lookout Mountain, Columbia South carolina and Bentonville North Carolina. The 83rd participated in the Grand Review of Sherman's Army in Washington DC before being mustered out. All of the regiments were mustered out at the end of the Civil War sometime in late 1865.
