Historical Note
At the June 1880 Democratic National Convention held in Cincinnati, Ohio, General Winfield Scott Hancock was nominated for president and William Hayden English for vice president. On August 19, 1880, Democrats in Harmony Township, Posey County, Indiana met to form a Hancock and English Club. These clubs were organized across the country to help secure the election of the Democratic presidental ticket and advance the interests of the party in other national, state, and local elections.
