Hagerstown Mining Company article of agreement

 Collection — Folder: S2389
Identifier: S2389

Scope and Contents

This collection includes a February 12, 1849 article of agreement contract signed by Samuel G. Newcom, Franklin Newcom, and John Michael Fritch, all of Wayne County, Indiana. The Newcoms agreed to "pay to the treasurer of the Hagerstown Mining Company one hundred and twenty five dollars as an outfit for the use of said John Michael Fritch in the contemplated expedition to California by said Hagerstown Mining Company." The agreement also included an agreement by Fritch to share an equal dividend of the profits with Samuel and Franklin Newcom for two years. Presumably, the money was an investment in a gold mining enterprise.
