Biographical Note

Williamson W. Dixon was born March 5, 1815 in Graham Township, Jefferson County, Indiana to Henry and Alcy (Wilson) Dixon. He became a successful tailor in Paris, a town with lots in both Jefferson and Jennings Counties before the Indiana Legislature declared the whole town to be legally within Jennings County. Around 1867, the town became "Old Paris" to differentiate it from Paris Crossing. Dixon married Nancy Osborn on January 14, 1836 and they had several children. In 1859, the Dixons purchased a farm with a large brick house east of Paris and he lived there until his death at the age of 71 on March 21, 1886.
