Scope and Contents

This collection consists entirely of photocopies. There are the journals of Walter E. Thrall, Captain of Company E of the 60th Indiana Volunteers. The journals range from April 1862 to December 1865. There is also information about the supplies and actions of the 60th, forms and other papers created in Southern Louisiana at the end of the war when Company E occupied Lafourche and Terrebone Parishes, and newsclippings.

Biographical / Historical

Walter E. Thrall was Captain of the 60th Indiana Volunteers during the Civil War. Thrall was from New Harmony, Indiana and was mustered in to Company E on March 11, 1862. Company E was located in Terrebone and Lafourche Parishes in southern Louisiana during the war.
