Historical Note

On August 9, 1881, 36 residents of Princeton, Indiana met for the purpose of establishing a library. The library was named the Princeton Library Association and was initially only available to those who paid an annual fee. Under a law approved in March 1883, the town's board of trustees was allowed to levy a tax for the purchase of books on condition that the library should be opened free to all the inhabitants of the town. In 1903, the library association dissolved and all property, both real and personal, was transfered to a public library board appointed by the city of Princeton.
