Scope and Contents

This collection includes a November 17, 1992 letter written by Norma Griebel and sent to "Delores and Barney" [Barnhart] with a reprint of a 1931 picture of students of the Madden Grade School that was located on Bryie Road, Eel River Township, Allen County, Indiana. In the letter she lists the names of the students in each row as remembered by herself and her sister Phyllis. The collection also includes a clipping of the same photograph that was published in the July 25, 1985 Tri-County Truth (Churubusco, Ind.) and the names of the students as identified by the paper.

Biographical Note

Norma Virginia McCoy was born February 9, 1923 in Green Township, Noble County, Indiana to Chauncy and Virgie (DeHoff) McCoy. Her family moved to Eel River Township, Allen County and she and her siblings attended the local schools. McCoy graduated from Huntertown High School and later worked for the Sears, Roebuck and Co. before retiring in 1983. She and Jack Griebel were married on July 16, 1943 and they raised their three children in Fort Wayne. Norma Griebel died at the age of 85 on May 17, 2008.
