Biographical Note

Kenneth W. Noe was born November 9, 1957 in Richmond, Virginia and grew up in Elliston, Virginia. He graduated from Emory and Henry College in 1979 and earned masters degrees from Virginia Tech in 1981 and the University of Kentucky in 1983. In 1990, he received his doctorate from the University of Illinois. He taught at the University of West Georgia and at Auburn before retiring in 2021. He is a noted historian of the American Civil War and has authored or edited eight books. Twice a Pulitzer Prize entrant, he has also received the 2002 Peter Seaborg Award for Civil War history, the 1997 Tennessee History Book Award, and several teaching awards.
