This collection contains documents related to the Austin family. Items include a school journal, songs and poems written by Carl Austin, Sr. A miscellaneous folder also contains a card from the Progressive Spiritualist Church, his work done during elementary school and a memo listing the owners of 340 W. 30th Street from 1930 to 1961.
This collection also contains information about his son, Carl E. Austin, Jr. This includes his military service records, notes taken while a student at Butler University and miscellaneous items such has his Butler University identification cards, invoices, a plane ticket, and insurance information and certificates from the Independent Order of Foresters.
The diary of Clara Sell and photographs of the family can also be found in this collection.

Biographical Note
Information indicates that Carl E. Austin, Sr. was born in Indiana around 1899. He worked as a salesman for a novelty company. Austin and his wife Audrey, who worked as an inspector for a hosiery manufacturer, were married around 1925.
Their son, Carl E. Austin, Jr., was also born in Indiana, probably Indianapolis. After graduating from Butler University in 1954, Austin served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957, when he was honorably discharged due to an injury. After returning to the United States, he was married to a woman named Phyllis and worked as a salesman.
