Biographical / Historical
“Sign Up, America” was an American Revolution Bicentennial program sponsored by the International Council of Shopping Centers in 1976. From June 14 (Flag Day) to the Fourth of July, malls across the country invited shoppers and visitors to sign Bicentennial Pledge scrolls to recreate the signing of the Declaration of Independence and show their support of the principles upon which the country was founded. Two scrolls from each participating shopping center were to be picked at random and sent to Washington D.C. to become part of a bound volume that would be presented to the White House as a Bicentennial gift. The remaining scrolls were given to state and local archives.
