This collection contains the record book of the Hoyt Avenue Methodist Protestant Church of Indianapolis, Indiana, including meeting minutes and reports from the treasure, stewards, and Sunday school superintendents. The entries begin on June 6, 1880 with the organizational meeting of the church, originally named the First Methodist Protestant Church of Indianapolis. From November 1887 through August 1898, the entries are recorded for the church's second name, the Dillon St. Methodist Protestant Church. Following another name change, the entries from November 1898 to July 1916 are recorded for the Hoyt Avenue Methodist Protestant Church.

Historical Note
On June 6, 1880, the First Methodist Protestant Church of Indianapolis, Indiana was organized by Rev. J. H. Luse, then president of the Indiana Conference, and Dr. S. H. Flood. At the time of its founding, 48 names were on the church roll. That same year, the church moved to the corner of Hoyt Avenue and Dillon Street (now Shelby Street). At the first quarterly meeting held in November 1887, the church changed its name to the Dillon Street Methodist Protestant Church and at the first quarterly meeting held in November 1898, the church changed its name again to the Hoyt Avenue Methodist Protestant Church.
