Scope and Contents
This collection includes a January 31, 1949 letter by Wemple Dodds, M.D., Chairman of the Committee on Public Relations of the Indiana State Medical Association, and sent to members of the association along with a copy of a January 8, 1949 letter Dr. Dodds received from Mr. H.A.H. Harris, F.R.C.S. of Chelmsford, England. In his letter, Mr. Harris shares his experiences and views regarding the British National Health Service (NHS) and the effects of socialized medicine on the patient, the consultant or specialist, and the general practitioner. The collection also includes the undated essay "Federal Medicine Boob Trap" by Dorothy Thompson.

Historical Note
The Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA) has been educating physicians regarding scientific and clinical developments in medicine since 1849. The association is a federation of county and district medical societies and has a mission to help doctors "provide the best possible health care for their patients." The organization is an advocate for Indiana's physicians and works to influence state policy concerning health care issues.
