Scope and Contents
This collection includes photocopies of Watson N. Clark's diaries and other writings that range from 1870 to 1890. The diaries cover the years 1870-1872, 1881, 1885-1887, and 1889 and consist primarily of the daily life of Clark, his family, and his neighbors. Clark also used pocket diaries to record his family history, his involvement with the Christian faith, and as a "book of reference" to record items that he thought were interesting about religious topics.

Biographical Note
Watson Nixon Clark was born August 1, 1812 in Montgomery County, Ohio to Isaac and Rachel (Nixon) Clark. In the fall of 1826, he moved with his family to Troy Township, Fountain County, Indiana. In February 1835, he married Elizabeth Briggs and they became the parents of six children. Following Elizabeth's death in 1847, he married Euphemia Crumley in August 1848 and they had nine children, all but three dying in infancy. Mr. Clark was a farmer and an active member of the Christian church. He passed away at the age of 86 on December 13, 1898.
