This collection includes a copy of a ten-page, typewritten list of laws, statutes, and codes from 30 different states regarding unapproved plats and the fines imposed for selling property without an approved and recorded plat. Arranged alphabetically by state name, the list was created circa 1938.

Historical Note

Merriam-Webster defines a plat as "a plan, map, or chart of a piece of land with actual or proposed features." Local governing bodies, such as public works departments, urban planning commissions, and zoning boards normally review and approve plats before they can be recorded with the local government.
