Historical Note

According to the account, schoolhouses in Indiana between 1821 and 1850 were quite rustic, made of logs and built in the woods with disregard for township lines.

In Rush County, John Nipp was one of eight people "who helped materially on" the old Silver Schoolhouse, a round-log building, which was still standing circa 1855-1856, before a new one was built in District 9, Washington Township, Rush County, Indiana.
