Scope and Contents

The collection consists primarily of Dunn's correspondence from the period 1866-1919. Included are Temple Dunn's letters to his brother, William R. Dunn, an Alton furniture maker (1866-1880); letters to his daughter, written while he was living at the Soldiers' Home (1904-1909); letters to Dunn from W.R. Dunn, principally when working with Peckinpaugh, Harrison and Company, an Alton wagon company (1892-1897); and other family letters from Jamestown, Boone County (1878), and from Wells College, N.Y. (1919). Additional materials include Dunn's correspondence with other educators regarding his efforts to find a position (1891-1893); business receipts (1880-1890); and his notes on Roman history (1880).

Biographical Note

Temple H. Dunn was born in Alton, Crawford County, Indiana in 1846. Temple was married to Marcia G. Dunn. He died in 1920, and is buried at Orchard Knob Cemetery.
