This collection includes a Sunday school temperance pledge certificate for Mary P. Frankum, signed by Philip Miller, president of the Sunday-School Temperance Society of the M.E. Church at Williamsport, Pennsylvania on October 21, 1860. "M.P. Frankum...Phoenixville, PA" is written in pencil on the back on the certificate.

Biographical Note

Mary P. Frankum was born June 21, 1851 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Reuben H. and Mary (Welker) Frankum. The family was living in Williamsport in Lycoming County when Mary signed a pledge to become a member of the Sunday-School Temperance Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Williamsport on October 21, 1860. The family later moved to Phoenixville. She married James Denithorne around 1880 and they had four children. She raised her family in Huntindon and she lived there until her death on October 25, 1925.
