Scope and Contents
This collection includes the township trustee school record book for the Second District, Township 9, north of range 1 east in Monroe County, Indiana with entries ranging from 1840 to 1851 and 1865. The records include school finances, teachers hired, and the names of families and the children attending school. The record book was later used by Amanda Robertson and T.H. Dollsberry from 1885 to 1890 and undated.
The collection also includes Bloomington Public Schools report cards for Dwight Ping (1905-1906) and Ruby Ping (1906-1907); December 1939 correspondence between Christopher B. Coleman of the Indiana State Library and Rodney H. Brandon regarding the Blue Springs Community; a five-page typewritten copy of the April 15, 1826 constitution of Blue Springs with a half-page description of the community by Rodney D. Smith dated February 29, 1938 and a paragraph about the community's location by a Mrs. Pafford; and a December 17, 1945 letter written by Mrs. George W. Cox of Bloomington containing several pages of notes regarding the genealogy of the Richardson family.

Historical Note
Monroe County, Indiana was established in 1818 and Bloomington was made the county seat that same year. Benton, one of eleven townships, was established in 1833 and encompassed Congressional Township 9 north, Range 1 east. In the spring of 1826, the Blue Spring community was established about seven miles south of Bloomington. The communitarian experiment lasted about a year before disbanding.
