Scope and Contents

The collection includes two photocopied typesc1ipt recollections by King about mills in Miami and Grant Counties dated 1966 and 1970. Included are descriptions of two events, changing ownership of the Peoria and Conners mills and technological changes that took place within and near the mills. Technological changes include switching from the use of water power to the use of steam and cylinder gasoline engines and from the use of bmT stones for flour or grist (feed) production to the use of roller mills. Other changes include the use of a race, mill pond, or forebay to capture water power of the river. Biographical Note

Frank M. King lived in Reserve, Miami County, from the year 1902 until he reached the age of six, dming which time his father owned the Peoria Mill of that Indiana county. From 1912 to 1916, Frank King grew up on the property of Conners Mill, near Jalapa, Pleasant Township, Grant County, Indiana. About 1917, he returned to Reserve, Indiana, dressing the old French bun- stone of the Peoria Mill under the direction of his father, who was working in Peru, Indiana, at the time. Mr. Frank M. King resided in Marion, Indiana, in 1970.
